On May 5th 1973 The National Historic Museum was opened to the public for the first time. On that date the museum, which is located in Sofia, became Bulgaria’s largest museum. Its purpose is to showcase the history of Bulgaria from the Paleolithic period up until now. It has over 650,000 pieces and was moved to a larger location in 2000. The current location has 15 different halls and includes 4 floors. Here are some of the permanent exhibitions, which account for only 10 percent of the entire museum:

Diamonds were discovered in South Africa by a child playing with brightly coloured stones by a river in 1866. One of the stones was recognised to be a diamond and the gem cut from it was appropriately named “Eureka”. This created a massive diamond rush and the start of a new beginning for diamonds. Diamonds mined in South Africa still continue to make up a large percentage of the world’s diamond jewellery, though there are gem quality diamonds that are being discovered all the time in other countries around the world.

Looming on top of Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Christ The Redeemer is a renowned image and vacationer destination. The idea of a religious statue was first formulated in 1921 by Carlos Oswaldo who drew out a model of Christ transporting a cross but it had been later decided that the statue would stand open arms and it also was decided that the statue would be sculpted in France.
