Pilots regularly make use of the expression “fly by the numbers”, and trust me, in flying there can be a ton of numbers. One group of fundamental numbers are the V-speeds. V-speeds are standard speeds that are important to get precision flight, and by precise flight I do not indicate some form of formation flying – I am talking about the sort of basic flying you actually undertake when you fly. They are rates of speed you should know, and in reality, my teacher requested that I know them before he’d let me solo.

There are lots of V speeds, and of course there are more for some planes than there are for others. For example, there is one speed called VLE, which is the maximum speed you can fly with the landing gear extended. That speed only applies to aircraft with retractable landing gear. I’ve got a fixed gear Cessna C-150L, so my plane doesn’t have a VLE.

The 1st V-speed is VR, or rotation rate. Rotation rate is the particular speed at which, when you’re moving down the runway upon take-off, you pull back upon the yoke and depart the gound. A 150 rotates at fifty-five mph (plus it gets there reasonably fast – you utilize full power, check the gauges and you’re virtually there).

When you have taken off you will need to land, and that will require going slower as much as possible while nevertheless maintaing management in addition to flying. That introduces the 2nd V-speed – the stall speed (VS). Stalling will be when the plane no longer has sufficient lift to keep it flying.

There are actually at the least a couple of stall rates – flaps all the way up and also flaps lowered. Flaps right down provides additional lift, therefore a lower stall speed. In my 150 the VS is 48 mph, meaning that with full flaps it will fly as slow as 48 mph at a gross weight of 1600 pounds before it stalls. Although landing at a slow speed is easier on the airplane, you still need some airspeed to maintain control. I actually land closer to 65-70 mph airspeed.

The third V-speed is VS1, or clean stall speed. This is the stall speed at gross weight, but with flaps up. Flaps up is clean, flaps down is dirty. VS1 is 54 mph.

When you want to land you have to slow down (there’s an old saying “slow down to go down”). One way to do that is to reduce power, raise the nose of the airplane, and apply flaps. The amount that you apply can vary, but what you can’t do is apply flaps at too high a speed. Too much airspeed and you’ll damage the flaps. That brings us to the fourth V-speed, VFE, or maximum flap extended speed. On the airspeed indicator a white line begins below this speed, so its easy to see when you’re in safe flap range. VFE for my 150 is 100 mph.

VC is cruising speed, and that comes in at between 120 and 123 mph. The the maximum speed at which you can use abrupt control travel, or the design manouvering speed is called VA, and that’s a little bit lower, coming in at 109 mph.

Its important to understand that you can get a 150 going pretty fast, and pretty quickly. That can happen in a descent, especially a nose down descent. It’s not extremely dangerous if you keep your eye on it, but it is important to keep in mind. This speed, which the manufacturer advises that you never exceed, is called (of course), the VNE. Although I’ve said it can happen quickly I have to admit I’ve never gotten close, because the VNE in the Cessna C-150 is 164 mph. However, speed does climb pretty quickly in a nose down attitude, so, as I said, its something to remember and keep an eye on.

Two V-speeds come up in relation to climbing. Normal climbs are performed at bewteen 75 and 85 mph with no flaps. This is best for cooling the engine (or more to the point, keeping it cool). We could say that the best rate of climb, VY, comes in at 77 mph.

There is another way to think about it as well. VY is the fastest climb rate in terms of time. In other words, at VY you’ll rise more feet per minute than you will at the second V-speed for climbing, VX, or best angle of climb. Best angle of climb is a measurement of how much you climb in relation to how far you travel across the ground. Its slower, about 69 mph, so you climb slower, but you don’t have to travel as far across the ground to get there. Obviously its helpful to know this speed if you’re concerned about clearing obstacles at the end of the runway.

Its interesting to note that VY decreases with altitude gain, while VX increase with altitude gain, becoming equal at the aircraft’s service cieling, wuhich in the C-150 is 13,000.

The last of the basic V-speeds is VBG, or best glide speed. This is important in the unlikely event that you experience an engine failure, or the likely event that an instructor throws a simulated power failure at you. You have to put the aircraft into the best power off glide speed, which is the speed that will allow the plane to glide the longest amount of distance, so that you can find an airstrip, make it back to the mainland or find somewhere acceptable to put the plane down.

If you want to learn to fly you’ll need to study the PSTAR. This is very important for bush pilot training.

This is the most major International air travel handling facility of the Seattle and Tacoma Areas. It serves as the American entrance to Alaska and East Asia. Because of its strategic positioning, Seattle airport parking is sought out by many travellers.

This is also the main point of entry for thousands of cruise ship passengers. These are travellers who are moving to and from the numerous cruise ships at the nearby port. Whether going on a cruise, or just passing through, the secure vehicle handling facilities are extremely convenient. SeaTac is among FlightStats’ best major airline handlers in the world.

This high rank is due to SeaTac’s departure excellence. Just last year, an incredible 85 percent of flights made on-time departures. This is why it is considered among the most dependable in the USA. The area around it is the stunning Puget Sound region. For ease of access, State Roads 518, 99 and 509 are right near SeaTac. Interstate 5 can also be found a mere 2.5 km away.

Park your vehicle in one of the Seattle airport parking areas and board your flight. More than 30 million passengers use depart and land on the three long runways offered here each year. You can utilize direct, as well as connecting flights to places all over the USA.

This is a major hub for Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines alike. If you are planning to travel to Europe or East Asia, there are flights here servicing those parts of the world as well. There are several innovations here, to assist with your check-in procedures.

There are new kiosks for some Airlines, providing check-ins for passengers without baggage. The new Global Entry program is in full effect here as well. The Global Entry system allows waiting time to be reduced by as many as 70 percent, when using the card provided.

The terminal complex consists of four concourses and a main terminal. This gives the passenger freedom to move between the different sections safely. There is a rail link connecting the terminals, making regular trips to and from the Main Terminal. It allows freedom of travel between the main terminal’s North Station and the distant South Station. This adds convenience to the pleasure of using the Seattle airport parking amenities.

It seems that no matter whether you are Pilot or passenger the most intense moment of flying is the take offs and landings. These are two areas that student pilots pay particularly close attention to. This doesn’t mean that there can’t be other issues once the plane is in the air, but statistics show most problems occur in take offs and landings. Out of the two, more accidents occur during landing. Interestingly enough though if the accident occurs during take off it appears to be far more serious.

Naturally, the ideal scenario for takeoff is what they call normal conditions. This means there are no cross winds present to be concerned about. A Pilot must constantly be aware of the weather conditions from both the outlook within the plan as well as when outside.

At the start of their take off training student pilots perceive take off as being one continuous maneuvering effect it is but you need to look at the various segments of the take off.

Segment One The take off roll. Aside of the adrenalin rush you are going to feel in the beginning you have the techniques that you must concentrate on to successfully complete this segment. You will enter into this phase once you have been cleared to enter the runway. Your feet must remain on the rudder pedals but at the same time ensure that there is no pressure on the brakes. From here, you must keep your movements smooth and continuous. You want to avoid any type of jerking movements. So without hesitation engage the throttle without hesitating. Give the plane the power it needs to clear the runway. The length of the runway is there because of your requirements so use all of it. If you are too far forwards, then move the plane back until it is in proper position. Don’t forget you are going to have to offset the torque effect and you will do this by adding right rudder pressure.

You should now be at the point where you are moving down the runway. Once again, smoothly but consistently use your rudder pedals to keep your direction under control. Your airspeed is what will ultimately control your direction but until you reach that point, you need to rely on your nose or tail wheel for that purpose. Never use your brakes to control your steering. The neutral position is where you should find your ailerons in, provided the wind conditions are stable or normal.

You will notice that as your air speed accelerates your elevator and rudder will become more effective in your directional maneuvers. You can enhance this by keeping minimal backpressure on the elevator during this time. These items will only become effective as the air moves over your aircraft. Once all this has been accomplished, it means you have reached your rotation speed. Prior to this point though be sure there is not too much backpressure on the yoke. There is a condition know as ground effect that could cause you to prematurely lift off before you are capable of being airborne. In some instances, you need to remain in ground effect while your airspeed is increasing. Under normal lift off circumstance, utilize what runway is available to you.

Do you want to be a private pilot? Do not pay for expensive flight schools – Get your hands on Complete Private Pilot DVD Training now.

So you are wanting to park your car at Gatwick airport, the choices can be endless and daunting. How are you suppose to make the right choice ? simple, you just need to take your time and compare products and companies. Type in Gatwick airport parking into any search engine and you will be returned with many websites but very few will be able to compare the car parks side by side.

So consider an average family of four wanting to choose Gatwick airport parking and wanting to leave on July 15th for two weeks. You need to go to a real airport parking comparison site such as www.ukairportcarparks.co.uk to save time and money for sure. These guys bring all products and information from all five main providers for airport parking into one site. Lets say we use this site and we’ve entered our dates for parking at Gatwick we will see approximately 36 car parks in the results. Out of these we have 15 meet and greet car parks as well as six car parks located outside the airport compound and a further 15 car parks located on the airport itself. The differnce in price is obvious to see ranging from 88.80 to over 140, but as well as that you can also see each car parks features and related customer information.

So this is one example of a comparison site giving you all the information you need allowing you to save time and money, but also allowing you to make an informed choice based on up to date facts. Some people can be overwhelmed by the choice of car parks at a big airport such as Gatwick, so again hopefully sites such as this will eleviate this problem.

Gatwick airport serves London and most of the south east so based on outgoing flights only you can imagine how busy it can get and although Gatwick uses only one runway at a time it does have two terminals to serve all of these travellers, one based north and one based in the south of the airport compound. So because of this when booking your airport parking at Gatwick you need to remember which terminal your airline uses, a fact which is not clearly pointed out on many airport parking websites out there.

Don’t pay more for car parking at Gatwick airport just because you think the more you pay the better it is, you need to simply select the car park which best suits your needs based on all the information given. Yes price is a major factor in determining what kind of car park you get but will it offer everything YOU need.

Do you choose on or off airport parking at Gatwick ? If you’d prefer to have a very short transfer time or even just walk to the terminal after parking your car then I would choose on airport parking. However some people don’t mind a 5 – 20 minute bus journey so for you I’d recommend off airport parking. The general rule of thumb is on airport parking is a bit more expensive than off airport parking. For those of you who don’t even want to walk to the terminal building I would recommend the various meet and greet services at Gatwick airport. Just drive to the departures terminal and somebody will park your car for you, on your way back just walk out of the arrivals building and get in your car to drive home… Easy!

Want to find out more about Airport Parking, then visit the site at Gatwick Airport Parking for all your airport parking needs.

When you have a business that requires you to travel frequently, commercial airlines can become troublesome and stressful. Unforeseen circumstances such as delays and schedule changes can completely throw off your business meetings, plans, and even leisure travel plans.

Sometimes you life is so hectic it is often difficult to work around the schedules of a commercial flight. Another problem with commercial flights is when traveling to remote locations it often requires transfers, and vehicle rentals to arrive at your destination. Commercial airlines are great when traveling on a family vacation to Disney or The Grand Canyon but when it comes to business trips they are not suited well for time management.

For a little extra money you can hire a private jet charter and all your troubles will be washed away. With a private jet charter you travel on your own time schedule. Not only that but while you are traveling you can conduct a business meeting in the air, or you can close your eyes and relax so that you are refreshed and ready when you arrive at your scheduled destination.

You can leave when it suits your schedule and you can arrive at your destination on time for your business meeting in a convenient location to get your meeting out of the way and get back on board for your trip home. It is a unique travel experience, but one that is becoming increasingly popular amongst businessmen and women around the world. With beefed up commercial airline security, commercial flights have become a full day event. Everything checked out, searched, long lines and bumped flights can really cut into your business schedule.

Traveling at your own convenience is what makes private jet charters a wise investment for your business. With a private jet you can conduct business on land or in air, and never have to work around the schedule of another again!

No matter what you reason for utilizing a private jet charter, it is really a simple and leisurely way to fly.

Air Travel with small children can turn out to be quite a difficult situation that can cause stress for many parents. In order to help diminish some of the chaos and stress, take some time prior to your trip and plan out as many details as possible. Younger children may have difficulty being confined to their seats on the airplane, bring along crayons and coloring books to help take their minds off of being confined. A change of pressure in the cabin that occurs during takeoff can hurt their ears, bring along gum or hard candy to help with this issue.

There are quite a few factors that you can complete ahead of time to help make sure that your kids are ready for air travel. Probably the most important item on the list is to make sure that your children have had a medical check-up completed by the family doctor or pediatrician. At this time, if they are behind on any vaccinations, you can get those shots caught up. In order for small children to fly the friendly skies, their immunizations must be current.

If you are going to be flying over a long distance, try to book an overnight flight to coincide with your children’s sleeping habits. Remember, you want to try and mimic the same routine you have at home with younger children, even though you are traveling. If you are going to be traveling along with your children, ask the airline if it is possible to have someone who will help you at each stop. An assistant may be available to help collect and carry your luggage for you.

You should only pack necessary items that your children may need in your carry-on luggage for the flight such as an extra change of clothing for each child, changing mat, baby wipes, tissues, rash creams, bottles of milk, favorite snacks, daily medications, spill-proof drinks and games and toys. Try to stick with packing items that will be used by your children versus taking up the carry-on bag with your personal laptop computer.

Dress your children in a couple of light layers, this way you can add or remove layers as necessary once you are on the plane. If your child is cold, blankets are readily available on most flights. If you need help, do not hesitate to ask the flight attendants for help. For instance, instead of trying to warm up your baby’s bottle under hot water in the bathroom, ask a flight attendant to warm it up for you.

Commercial airlines have stopped shipping pets as checked baggage during extreme hot and cold weather temperatures. In fact, many of the airlines have special programs that will allow you to ship your pets as cargo, during times of the day when the temperature are the most moderate such as early morning. It is not recommended to fly with your pet, but, if it is absolutely necessary there are few guidelines that should be followed.

Nowadays, there are a few basic ways that you can transport pets on aircraft. Included are flying with your pet on a commercial airline flight, hiring a private jet company to fly you and your precious cargo to your intended location or hiring a professional to transport your pet. A professional pet transporter will take care of all the details which include picking up your pet from your home, ensuring that your pet has been properly placed on the flight and safely transporting the animal to its destination.

If you ask any veterinarian about sedation of your pet during air travel, you will more than likely hear that they suggest not doing that, this is for the animal’s safety. If you are concerned about your pet being over anxious during travel, then please make sure you discuss this issue in depth with your veterinarian as he or she may have some alternative suggestions to relieve your pet’s anxiety. Make sure that your pet’s nails are trimmed to avoid snagging on the travel crate’s door or some other object and double check to make sure that you have all the necessary health certificates and documentation.

Commercial airlines have minimum standards that your travel crate should meet in order for your pet to be able to travel. The minimum requirements are that the crate is large enough for your pet to lie down comfortably, turn around and stand freely. You must mark the crate with “Live Animal – This Side Up” and include your name, telephone number and address. This information will be useful in the event that the pet gets lost or misplaced during transportation. Placing an old blanket and toys inside of the crate may help your pet feel more comfortable during the trip.

Many pets get upset stomachs while in the air, to avoid this, do not feed your pet before you travel. A good idea is to give your pet some frozen water in a bowl or ice cubes to lick while in the travel crate. This will help make sure that they do not get too thirsty. In addition, plan out your trip in advance and make sure that you adhere to the regulations of the airline. Early check-in will ensure that you have everything situated for your trip and you can make sure that your pet is safely onboard.

Doing business on a commercial aircraft can really be a drag. There is just a lot of noise and chaos on commercial air crafts and if you wind up with a child kicking your seat or a screaming baby who cries for two hours straight, you surely won’t be getting anything accomplished. If you are looking for a way to work and travel at the same time, then it is time to consider hiring a private jet charter. There are many reasons why using this mode of transportation is superior to any other method of business or leisure travel.

When you are traveling on commercial airlines you are stuck on their schedule. Having to take off and land, whenever they have flights available. If you are busy, then it is much nicer to be able to come and go when it is convenient for you. You won’t need to go through baggage claims and the other hassles of flying commercially either. Everything is geared towards you and your needs.

Private jets can also fly into many, many more airports then commercial airlines can. This means you can fly from an airport that is closer to you, and arrive at an airport that is closer to your destination. Chartering a private jet makes the whole process of making travel arrangements a more pleasant experience.

Your private jet is suited to your needs and the needs of your guests. You can choose a flight that is just big enough for all that you are traveling with, even ones that are large enough to hold a round table business meeting. Whether you want to relax or work you can choose the jet charter that fits into your plans.

If you are traveling to a remote location, a private jet charter is also a great idea, as you do not need to worry about connecting flights or overlays. Since a private jet charter can land in smaller areas than a commercial flight, traveling to remote locations is no longer a problem.

On board you will choose who is with you and that means not little kids or babies crying unless you choose so. You can work with ease on a private charter jet and that means better overall use of your flying time. You can work without distraction or other issues that can affect you when flying commercially.

If you are interested in learning more about private jet charters log onto www.privatejetscharter.net. The have all the information that you will need on private jet rental, as well as the extras that you can purchase for your trip.

A great business reason to charter a private jet is the time your party will save on both ends of the journey. Private jets can land at about 5000 smaller airports in the United States. This means your corporate group can take off nearer to home and land closer to their destination. There is less expensive ground transportation needed and the savings in time add up to more fun and more money saved.

There are added amenities with charter jets that you do not get on regular flights. These include access to your baggage inside the cabin, and catering and business accessories like work tables and fax machines. A private jet can land at many more airports than can a commercial flight. You and your party can fly out from an airport nearer to your home and land at an airport closer to your destination.

There is less stress when you charter a private jet because there are fewer delays and landings and take-offs are conducted more quickly with less air traffic. On board your private jet you can order up the amenities you wish including private dining service or catering. Your passengers can access their luggage from the cabin if necessary and seating is luxurious and comfortable.

Private jets are roomy and after the take-off is completed guests are free to move around and enjoy the trip. For business charter flights the jet can be supplied with work spaces, computer stations and fax machines so you can use air time for work projects if necessary. The exterior of the jet can sometimes carry your company branding also to create more of a corporate identity to your private jet charter.

Another business reason to charter a private jet is that you can hire a private jet for every size group. The small private jets are good for 4 to 6 persons; mid-size jets will accommodate 6 to 9 persons and larger jets carry 10 to 16 persons. Even larger jets and jumbo jets will carry from 10 to about 60 persons as needed, depending on their actual size.

If you are seeking a private jet charter for corporate reasons you can even have some corporate branding signage applied to the jet. Private jet charter companies go the extra mile to accommodate you and your party and to make your flight extra special. Next time you need to fly privately or with a large group consider the benefit of private jet charters to make your journey more comfortable and specially tailored to your needs. Save time and money; go private!
