A gun shy dog is no gun dog! You can be thankful, however, that this is a correctable problem that can’t be beat. You can turn your gun shy dog into a true hunting dog. It is however significantly easier to accomplish this task if the dog isn’t too old. An old mutt can become set in its ways, and consequently, it is more of a challenge for them to adjust for new types of situations and environments with any degree of effectiveness. For this reason, if your hound is an old house dog, you’re probably better off purchasing a second dog, specifically a puppy for your hunting needs.
