Any time my friends and I get into a discussion of the best actors currently working today, one of the more controversial answers that always seems to come up is Nicholas Cage. I can’t pinpoint exactly why I love Nicholas Cage movies so much; I don’t think he’s the most versatile actor, and the films are rarely spectacular. But that does not stop him from being one of my favorites.

No one can deny the talent that Philip Seymour Hoffman showcases in almost every role he stars in. Whether it’s a comedy, drama or other genre of film, you can be sure of one thing: If its starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, it will display the talent of one of the best actors working today.

Tony Scott is one of the better action directors in the game today. He clearly has a distinct style; it is easy to recognize a Tony Scott film. He also seems to have an affinity for certain actors. Denzel Washington seems to be his favorite, while he also enjoys making movies with Gene Hackman.

In 1957, Stanley Kubrick directed a movie that would change the face of war as no one had seen before on the silver screen. Inspired to bring the novel by Humphrey Cobb he read in his school days to life in live action, Kubrick embarked on a journey to reveal the seedy underbelly of war that few people dare to think about. Paths of Glory sparked much controversy across the nation, and even in other countries, temporarily hindering the careers of Kubrick and the lead actors involved. However, when this taboo lifted, it only revealed the truth and irony of the film’s message.
