Growing olives may be a highly satisfying and fulfilling practical experience. They can flourish in any type of soil and also climatic conditions – as long as you give them the right treatment.

The second benefit for having olive trees is actually for their produce – which proved to be very beneficial over the years. Aside from the olives that you’ll gather, extracts coming from an olive leaf has which may have medical attributes.

If you intend to buy olive trees, you must know that growing olives may be most prosperous if your climate conditions comprise of dry and hot summer months as well as mild winter months. Chilly winters that can get under -10 degrees may be destroying to your tree.

In contrast, if you are living in a cool place don’t get disappointed, you may still grow olive trees successfully, by just choosing the proper assortment and planting potted trees inside a greenhouse. It might be a little bit pricey, although, the benefits may go over that tremendously.

Alternately, you may even grow smaller trees and transfer them in the house whenever the chilly winter season get started. It is advisable that growing olives for processing be done in twos or maybe more. They should cross pollinate to enable them to bear fruit.

It is important for you to understand that olive trees can be grown with hardwood cutting from mature branches. You can get more success from this than new growth. A mature tree would mean an olive tree that has already born fruit in the previous growing season.

A hard wood cutting is 12-18 inches long and 1-3 in. within diameter. The best age of such must be two seasons. These cuttings have to be cured with a rooting hormone then placed in a pot. The soil has to be held wet to motivate root growth. Tend not to have it waterlogged as too much water could kill your growing olives.

When there are roots and the young olive tree becomes evident, you could now relocate the tree outside the house. The location of the transfer has to be in full sunlight. Choose a location in line with the very best soil condition – pH in between 5 and 8.5 and could be well drained right after the rain.

Loosen up the soil before you’ll transplant and make sure no conditions are lurking there. Add some fertilizer to make your soil healthy – nitrogen is likely to make it ideal for growing olives.

After planting the young olive tree, step on the soil in the surrounding area to seal air pockets. Place stakes to support the tree until the roots have gained a proper hold on the soil. Make sure to water them during dry periods once as month. These trees are known to live past a drought but it can affect the produce if you do not water them well.

Growing olives should be a fantastic duty specifically if you assume the fruits you’re going to get from you work.

The Bay of Fundy has the extraordinary tidal bore phenomenon, when incoming tides overpower the flow of outflowing estuaries and rivers. Twice daily, during high tide, a huge amount of seawater surges out of the Bay of Fundy straight into the estuaries and rivers which feed the bay. The tapered riverbanks force the soaring tidal water in a amazing surge and often a noticeable standing wave, occasionally 1 meter (3 ft) tall! When the roaring and swirling tidal water charges upstream at speeds around 15 kilometers per hour (10 miles per hour) it creates rapids in its wake which can be approximately 3 to 3.5 meters (10-12 ft) high.

Most rivers draining into the upper Bay of Fundy between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have tidal bores. Most of them are located on the Nova Scotia side of the bay. But, you may have trouble finding them without the help of some locals. A few great places to see a tidal bore are:

– The Petitcodiac River. Formerly the highest bore in North America at over 2 metres (6.6 ft); however, causeway construction and extensive silting reduced it to little more than a ripple, until the causeway gates were opened on April 14, 2010 as part of the Petitcodiac River Restoration project and as a result the tidal bore began to grow again.
– The bore is fastest and highest on some of the smaller rivers that connect to the Bay including the River Hebert and Maccan River on Cumberland Basin (about 10 minutes from Amherst), the St. Croix, Herbert and Kennetcook Rivers in the Minas Basin, and the Salmon River in Truro.

Visitors usually like to visit the sites with some interpretation panels like the ones found along the Maccan River and the Shubenacadie River near the South Maitland Tidal Bore look-off. You’ll want to remember that the bore time does not necessarily match with the high tide times listed on a tide chart. It all depends on exactly where along the river you are watching, so it’s best to check with some of the local outfitters beforehand.

As intriguing as it is to see the tidal bore from the riverbanks, it really is a lot more exciting to try white water river rafting in it. This specific adventure is exclusive to the Bay of Fundy given that the Shubenacadie River, found in Nova Scotia, is considered the sole spot on earth where you can enjoy tidal bore rafting.

In the summer months, experienced guides take visitors on a one-of-a-kind, upriver rafting adventure. These adventures often also include an extremely fun mud sliding session. Tidal bore rafting might just be the best way to experience the Bay of Fundy tides first hand!

The Bay of Fundy tidal bore isn’t the only reason to visit us this summer. Check out our extensive list of 52 reasons to visit the Bay of Fundy Nova Scotia at http://bayoffundy.com/52

There is a correct and an incorrect way to water orchids and so you need to understand this so that you may care for them properly. As with all plants, orchids need a proper growing environment to achieve their potential. And a vital consideration in providing your orchid the correct environment in which to grow is to make certain that it receives the correct amount of water.

Since the amount of water required for your orchid can vary between different species of orchids, it is important to research your particular plant. But, it is helpful to understand orchids in general and where they come from.

Tropical climes are the usual homes of the orchid plant. Most orchid plants grow naturally in areas where there is a high rainfall. High humidity can also be an important element of the orchid’s environment. 80% humidity is really the best level for just about every variety of orchid plant. You will need to plan for your orchids in order for them to grow and flourish as a home which is constantly at 80% humidity is not a comfortable home for most people.

Steady access to water is probably the best way to maintain the level of humidity needed to grow your orchids. Purchase a deep bowl or saucer and some pebbles from your local craft store. Place the rocks in the deep dish. Place your orchid in a pot with holes in the bottom of it atop the rocks. Then add water to the rocks. The water should not be touching the pot with the orchid in it. If you set your orchid up this way, you can create the appropriate level of humidity for them.

The most common error which people make in the care of their orchids is to water them excessively. This is due to the assumption of many orchid owners that whenever the potting soil appears dry, it is time to water the plant. In reality, this is not the case and particularly in regard to orchids. While the potting soil has the appearance of being dry, it is retaining moisture.

You should water orchids very lightly and usually only one time each week or every other week. The potting soil should become completely dry before you add more water to your orchid. There are also orchids that grow out of the branches and trunks of certain trees. In these cases, the orchids roots would be completely dry before they got more water. This is how they exist naturally.

In order to avoid any damage to the cells of the orchid plant, one must utilize water which is lukewarm or at room temperature because water which varies by ten degrees Fahrenheit from room temperature, either above or below, will be harmful to the plant. You must water orchids with water that is comfortable to the touch and is neither too hot nor too cold.

Taking good care of your orchids will keep them healthy and blooming for years to come. Establish a routine for fertilizing and watering and then stick to it. Following a regimen of correct orchid care, including the proper amount of potting soil, the correct amount of water, the right quantity of sunlight and occasional fertilization, will cause your plant to flourish in your home.

In addition to being very pleasing to the eye, orchids are known for being temperamental. However, with knowledge of proper orchid care you will find that it is not exceedingly difficult to cultivate and enjoy the exotic beauty of these plants. Simply remember the proper way to water orchids.

Those who enjoy birdwatching can now turn their hobby into research for North American birds. Each year the Cornell Lab of Ornithology organizes a count of feeder birds across the country. The effort is called Project FeederWatch and those who participate simply count the number of birds present at a given place and given time.

The great public bird count is scheduled for November through April each year. Those wanting to take part in a given year must enroll by the end of February, and registration is continuously open. The task involves making a tally of the total birds seen at a specific point in time. This method prevents duplicate counting and avoids constant monitoring of the count area.

There is a $15 annual participation fee which covers the majority of the expense of the entire project. Participants receive a research kit which includes instructions, a bird identification poster, a wall calendar, a resource guide to bird feeding, and a tally sheet. U.S. participants also receive a subscription to the Lab of Ornithology’s newsletter.

Data collected in Project FeederWatch is featured in science publications and frequently used by ornithologists and birdwatchers throughout North America. The count provides a real opportunity to contribute to the well-being and research of birds that share our habitat. Another benefit is finding previously unknown birds in the neighborhood.

The bird count is open to every type of individual and group. Currently it includes people of all skill levels and backgrounds: Classrooms, individuals, families, children, bird clubs, nature centers, youth groups, and retired persons. The count provides great learning opportunities for families and organizations. In short, everyone with an appreciation for birds is welcome.

The amount of time spent counting birds is up to the participant. The FeederWatch organizers provide multiple scenarios for both days and hours invested. As the strategy is to count the birds present at a given point in time, those with little free time on their hands can still provide accurate information.

The location for counting can vary though it must be consistent. An area with a bird feeder or birdhouse can be ideal, though any bird-friendly part of the yard will suffice. If one enjoys watching birds, they will certainly know where to find them. The FeederWatch materials provide good guidance on picking a location and other aspects of the count.

Being a FeederWatcher provides multiple rewards for those who enjoy birding. Participants are given a unique opportunity to closely observe birds and help in their conservation at the same time. Project materials sent to the counters also make a nice bonus.

Follow this link to treat your wild birds to a bird feeder or birdhouse.

With some great jewelers, it is possible to avoid bloods diamonds and continue living an Eco-conscious life while doing your good deeds. Accept their offerings of Eco-friendly jewelry made out of refined metals and conflict free diamonds. If the diamonds have passed through the Kimberley, process then be assured they are clean diamonds which are also known as the Conflict free diamonds.

StopBloodDiamonds.org is the site for conscious jewelers. The blood diamonds tainted with human rights violations come from Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola, therefore Diamond trade with this region is banned. Horrible crimes against fellow humans are committed here at the hands of well-armed militants who are supported by unethical governments.

Terrorist groups much like the Al-Qaeda use these diamond mines for money laundering operations and other activities. We urge you to join us in this protest against crimes against humanity and buy only clean diamonds. Carry on your crusade to save the environment by adding to your list of choices to wear only precious metals which are recycle; besides eating only organic food, walking to the station and watching your carbon footprint.

Basically the old and broken jewelry is molten and refined to gain the base-metal which is then redesigned into to new jewelry for you.
